Truro...

The dolphin in the logo has a number of meanings. I am trained as a marine and freshwater ecologist and the dolphin has always been one of my favourite animals. I view dolphins as native animals to Cornish waters and work hard to protect water quality for them and other aquatic life. Dolphins are also graceful, friendly, strong, inherently peaceful and protective of those in need, reflecting the nature of the true martial artist. Finally, the dolphin pays homage to Richard Lander, the famous Truronian explorer who was born in the old Dolphin Inn.

The colours have a meaning too. The white indicates purity and innocence and reminds the Tae Kwon-Do student to remain humble and courteous throughout their Tae Kwon-Do training. The blue indicates the element Heaven, which in a far-eastern philosophical sense refers to the unending store of knowledge, which mankind is able to tap into. The blue of Heaven also reminds the Tae Kwon-Do student that their training will never be completed, there is always more to learn and Tae Kwon-Do development and evolution are eternal. Together these colours form a Yin-Yang symbol, revolving around and balancing each other so that a student’s learning will always be based on courtesy, humility and respect.

Camborne...

The Camborne Tae Kwon-Do Academy badge is a mirror of the Truro badge.  The mine is Wheal Rose near Scorrier, which can often be seen silhouetted against a setting sun from the A30.  The mine is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the people of Cornwall and this is also symolised in the red colour of badge, which in the Far East is the element Fire or Sun, meaning energy and passion, or a person flowing with life force and power.

The shield on both badges is known as the cornish shield and indicates the 15 golden roundels or bezants that were paid to the Saracens as a ransom to release the Duke of Cornwall who had been captured during the crusades.

The two badges, when superimposed create the red and blue Yin-Yang (or Eum-Yang in Korean) symbol at the centre of the Korean flag.  Traditionally this indicates the balance of opposing and complementary forces but in modern terms the Koreans consider this to show the blood of the Korean people flowing into the sea during their years of occupation and oppression.
