13th Nov - GTI British Championships 2011
Two martial arts families from Truro Tae Kwon-Do Academy travelled to the recent GTI Tae Kwon-Do British Championships in Cheltenham, bringing home a number of medals and trophies.
The students competed in both modern free sparring and traditional Tae Kwon-Do routines known as patterns and with some 300 competitors, the divisions were hotly contested. Brother and sister Ned and Myrth Floyd won their respective divisions and both returned to Cornwall as British Tae Kwon-Do Champions, a great achievement in their first major tournament.
Their instructor, Liam Broderick is extremely pleased stating, 'it can be very daunting to take part in such a large tournament but my students showed great courage, performing extremely well and I'm very proud of them all. It was great to have these two families amongst the students from Cornwall and it highlights that Tae Kwon-Do is a family-oriented martial art that is open to all ages and abilities.'

4th Nov - Kickathon for BBC Children in Need
Cornwall Tae Kwon-Do martial artists have raised more than £700 for BBC Children in Need in their 'Kickathon for Pudsey'. The goal of this fundraising event was to raise £500 by performing 500 kicks in one hour. All that took part managed to exceed this target, reaching 750 with many of the students continuing on to perform 1,000 kicks, a superb achievement!
Senior Instructor Liam Broderick who organised this event commented, 'Tae Kwon-Do is famed throughout the world for its wide range of dynamic kicks, including jumping, flying, spinning and reverse kicks, all of which were performed during our Kickathon for Pudsey. Part of the Tae Kwon-Do ethos is to give something back to your community, and Cornwall Tae Kwon-Do has a long history of supporting BBC Children in Need, a charity that gives every penny that we donate to those UK children that so desperately need it. I'm proud and honoured that my students performed so well and raised so much money and I cannot thank them enough. And they're now super-fit for next weeks British Championships!'
